Popular Apparel Category Trends For 23/24-Gender-Inclusive
August 12,2022
With the development and advancements of the time, the majority of consumers seek more gender-inclusive clothing brands. This is prompting retailers and brands to start looking at how they surface inclusivity.
Although this is only part of the apparel market, two conclusions have been drawn based on WGSN's e-commerce data.

Firstly, consumers need to see more inclusivity.
Secondly, in addition to inclusivity, ongoing trends in personal style and lifestyle mean that more people are looking for quick and easy shopping in gender categories.
The saturation of streetwear, its popularity, the gradual boom in casual wear, and the fusion of tailoring and innovation have driven inclusive shopping.
And as more and more young parents choose to dress their children in non-gender clothing, the market demand for gender-inclusive clothing is gradually expanding and influencing the dressing as well as shopping habits of the new generation.

In light of this situation brands and merchants and media are making the shift, although 97% of brands still use the word Unisex in their product descriptions. However, gender-neutral is
emerging as the most popular rising alternative to unisex.
On social media, wider conversations around gender are driving the #GenderFluid hashtag,
while terms such as #Unisex and #Genderless are generally used more often on TikTok's
fashion-focused posts.
Combines and scales personal style with options outside of traditional gender boundaries to provide an inclusive, customized service.

It is also possible to use inclusive navigation that allows inside and outside the gender category of the page. Inclusive apparel shopping is all about personal dress style choices. Create AI-assisted personal style quizzes for trans shoppers and provide them with body size scanning technology and matching outfit matching solutions to help trans and non-binary shoppers access the best matching outfit options, making it easy for them to buy outfits based on style choices.
It is also possible to curate non-gender-specific clothing themed shopping pages for children/teens. Appeal to a new generation of parents looking for cute inclusive clothing for their kids, use style narratives that have cross-gender appeal for children, and look for stronger styling directions on social media that have broad appeal for teens.

With respect to apparel category selection, data from WGSN shows that categories such as jackets, pants, woven shirts, and blouses have seen modest growth in sales. The tailoring elements of these categories are more inclusive, so gender-inclusive products are expanding to more diverse groups that need to focus on design as well as tailoring methods and fit to ensure they are suitable for all types of people.
Reinvent the way you cut and sew, test the current trends in gender-inclusive clothing, adopt bolder, innovative prints , and explore less gendered fonts and stickers between women’s wear and men’s wear design teams, fostering collaborative trends and item-focused conversations. Work with external non-binary co-creators to build insight and empathy in order to help master technical design details.
We thank WGSN for providing the data material.
