Overview

The tie-dyeing process is divided into two parts: tie-dyeing and dyeing. It uses yarn, thread, rope and other tools to tie, sew, tie, tie, clip and other forms of fabrics before dyeing. Its purpose is to play a dye-proof effect on the tied part of the fabric, so that the tied part maintains the original color, and the unbonded part is evenly dyed. Thus, uneven shades and rich layers of color halo and wrinkle prints are formed. The tighter and firmer the fabric is tied, the better the anti-staining effect. It can be dyed into ordinary tie-dyed fabrics with regular patterns; it can also be dyed into complex compositions showing figurative patterns and exquisite handicrafts with a variety of brilliant colors, which are naive and simple, novel and unique. Tie-dyeing is a peaceful and peaceful world composed of blue and white as the main tone, that is, the contrast of blue and white is used to create a simple and simple connotation, and the combination of blue and white often gives people a sense of elegance like "blue and white porcelain". And peace and tolerance are more reflected in the tie-dye sky.

Tie-dyeing generally uses cotton-white cloth or cotton-linen blended white cloth as raw materials, and the main dyes come from the indigo solution of natural plants such as Radix Isatidis, Radix Isatidis, Mugwort and other natural plants grown on Cangshan, especially Radix Isatidis. Banlangen used to dye cloth was wild on the mountain. It is a perennial herb with small pink flowers. Later, when the amount was large, the people who dyed the cloth planted it on the mountain. After harvesting, soak it in water first, pour it into a large wooden dyeing vat, mix with some lime or industrial alkali, and then use it to dye cloth. The production method of tie-dye is unique. The old books vividly describe the process of making tie-dye in ancient times: "'Pick up' the thread and knot it, and then dye it. When dyeing, untie the knot. Every knot is the primary color, and the rest is It is dyed, and its color is gorgeous." The main steps of tie-dyeing include drawing brush patterns, twisting, soaking, dyeing, steaming, drying, removing stitches, rinsing, grinding, etc., of which there are two main steps: tie-dyeing and dip-dyeing. The key to the process and technology is the twisting technique and the dyeing technique. Dyeing vats, dyeing sticks, drying racks, stone mills, etc. are the main tools for tie-dyeing.

tie flowers

Zhahua, formerly known as tie knots, that is, after the fabric is selected, according to the requirements of the pattern, the fabric is wrinkled, folded, rolled, squeezed and other methods are used to make it into a certain shape, and then needle by needle. Sew or tie, tie it tightly and sew it tightly, so that the fabric becomes a string of "pimples".

In the past, the cloth used for tie-dyeing was entirely made of thick white cotton soil cloth hand-woven by the Bai nationality. Nowadays, there are fewer native cloths. Industrial woven raw white cloth, packaging cloth and other fabrics are mainly used, which have strong water absorption and soft texture. First, folk art designers draw various patterns according to folk traditions and the needs of the market, plus their own creations. The printers use wax paper with holes to print the designed patterns on the raw white cloth. The women then lead the cloth away, sew it with meticulous handwork according to the pattern, and then send it to the tie-dye factory or various dyeing workshops.

dip dyeing

Dip dyeing, soak the fabric that will be tied with "pimples" in water first, and then put it into the dyeing vat, or soak it in cold dyeing, or heat it for hot dyeing, remove it after a certain period of time to dry, and then put the fabric into the dyeing vat dip-dye. Repeatedly dipping in this way, each dipping one layer of color, that is, "green out of blue". The stitched part, because the dye cannot be dyed, naturally becomes a good-looking pattern, and because people have different stitches and different degrees of dye diffusion when sewing, it has a certain randomness, and the dyed finished product is very good. Less exactly the same, its artistic meaning will be more.

After dyeing to a certain extent, finally remove the dye and put it in clean water to rinse off the excess dye. After drying, remove the knot, pick out the "pimple" and iron it flat. The hollow white cloth color is the "flower"; the rest is dark blue, which is the "ground", and a pattern of white flowers on a blue background appears. At this point, a beautiful tie-dye cloth is completed. There is often a certain transitional gradient effect between "flower" and "earth", with many ice cracks, natural and lively, overcoming the rigidity of pictures and patterns, making the colors more rich and natural.

Tie-dye uses a wide range of materials, often using local mountains and rivers as creative materials. Its patterns are Cangshan and colorful clouds, or Erhai waves, or the shadow of a tower and butterflies, or myths and legends, or ethnic customs, or flowers, birds, fish and insects. In the process of dip dyeing, because the border of the pattern is infiltrated by the indigo solution, the pattern produces a natural halo pattern, with green inside, solemn and elegant, thin as smoke, light as cicada wings, dreamlike, looming, and unique. There is a clumsy fun of returning to nature.
